1959

Sokolsky goes to work for Harper's Bazaar.

1962

Sokolsky photographs the entire editorial content of McCall's Magazine, a first in its time.

1964

Sokolsky invited by the School of Visual Arts in New York to teach a special class at his studio in New York.

1969

Sokolsky embarks on a new career in television commercials as director/cameraman. He is honored with 25 Clio Awards, along with every major television commercial award including the coveted Directors Guild nomination. Many of Sokolsky's commercials are in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York.

1972

Sokolsky versed in all phases of special effects and cinematography, presents a computerized zoom lens that he designed with electronics guru Tony Karp to the Academy of Arts and Sciences. The system was subsequently nominated for an Academy Award. The opening sequence of The Godfather is an example of the virtuosity of the computerized system.

1975

Sokolsky was invited by the Japanese Graphic Society to lecture in Tokyo and Kyoto, and was also named Honorary Professor of Photography.

1986

The Victoria and Albert Museum install an exhibition of photographs called Shots of Style, a retrospective of the worlds major fashion photographers. The Victoria and Albert Museum include Sokolsky's photographs in the exhibit, and subsequently place many of them in their permanent collection.

1991

The Victoria and Albert Museum mount a show called Appearances, that will later travel around the world. The book Appearances is available in the United States.

1995

Canon USA names Sokolsky as one of their Explorers of Light to lecture and photograph internationally. The Fahey / Klein Gallery in Los Angeles and the Staley / Wise Gallery in New York represent Sokolsky.

1997

The Staley / Wise Gallery install a major show in their New York gallery entitled Ideas. In 1998, Carla Sozzani install a show of Sokolsky's photographs at her prestigious gallery, Corso Cosmo 10 in Milan, Italy.

2000

The Fahey / Klein Gallery install a major show in conjunction with Sokolsky's newly published book published by Arena Editions, a 197-page hard cover monograph, Melvin Sokolsky: Seeing Fashion.

2003­06

Mr. Sokolsky is a frequent contributor photographing editorial assignments for Harper's Bazaar, Vogue, Wallpaper,and Vibe Magazines. He is also working on various advertising assignments.

2007

The Staley / Wise Gallery mounts a major one-man show titled Paris 1963-65 which was held over three extra weeks due to popular demand. The Fahey / Klein Gallery who represents Sokolsky internationally has traveling shows scheduled through out the world.

2007

Sokolsky is a regular contributor to the major fashion magazines internationally.

2008

Sokolsky is invited to show in Hyères, France, at the 23 Festival International De Mode & Photographie.

2008

The Fahey / Klein Gallery produces a show titled New Work, which includes Sokolsky's past and present work.

2009

The Metropolitan Museum of Art includes Sokolsky's iconic Twiggy photos in their upcoming exhibition The Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion.
